Church Teachers' College Degree Programmes
CITE is the acronym for the Consortium of Institutions for Teacher Education. The operation began in January 2007 with the aim of helping to meet our country's demand for better trained teachers; teachers who are confident and competent to meet the myriad demands of the learner, the complex nature of the learning environment and the dynamics of a changing society.
The Bachelor in Education Degree (B.Ed) is a natural development from and easily articulates with the Diploma in Teaching. The philosophy espoused in the degree incorporates practice internationally regarded as exemplary.

The teaching approach will be both learner-centered and interactive. It is intended to focus on practice and application and to encourage reflective and analytic classroom practice leading to a strengthened knowledge base. Students will be helped to take a problem-solving approach to teaching and to use critical judgement in applying principles of teaching and learning. The programme is so structured that it will aid the development of effective citizenship and the leadership potential of graduates.

The objective of the program is to:

  • strengthen the teacher's pedagogical competence and subject knowledge
  • develop a reflective practitioner and teacher - researcher who will be able to analyze and respond appropriately to the needs of the learner, the school, and community
  • increase language fluency and the communication skills of the teacher
  • broaden the teacher's commitment to his/her country and its learners

The degree is offered part-time in:

  1. Primary Education
  2. Secondary Education in:
    • Mathematics
    • English
    • Social Studies
    • Human Ecology

Another aspect of the degree programmes is the teacher preparation degree programme for teachers who hold a diploma in teaching. Graduates of this programme earn the Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education from the top-ranked Temple University in Philadelphia.

The programme is a collaborative effort between Temple University and Church Teachers' College it has been running since 1999 and has won many accolades not just because of its academic worth but because it accommodates the work schedule of the teachers who engage in the program, enabling them to earn the bachelor’s degree whilst practicing their profession.

Teachers in the program can transfer their course credits from a teachers’ college diploma programme to Temple University’s College Education.
