Church Teachers' Colllege :: Guidance and Counselling
Within the College community, the Guidance and Counselling Department is vested with the responsibility of facilitating the goals and objectives of the administration and all other Departments as well as to establish and maintain its own programmes.
Consistent with our philosophy; the Guidance and Councselling Department is committed to the holistic development of all of the college’s students and staff. To this end the department focuses on the spiritual, academic, moral, socio-economic, health, career development and social well being of the individual. The Guidance Counsellor works closely with the other Student Support Services personnel to ensure the students’ total fulfillment. The Guidance Department is headed by full-time Guidance Counsellor who provides students and staff with the time and opportunity to discuss issues of concern to them. There is also a vibrant peer counselling association among the student population. All matters are dealt with in the strictest confidence.

The Guidance Counsellor is time-tabled to meet with students in their class for Personal Development sessions. Peer Coaching is a hallmark of the success of the Counselling programme

The Objectives of the Department's programme is to:

  • Increase the College's awareness of mental health issues, through equipping its population with preventative/curative strategies, and practices;
  • Assist in the holistic development of the individuals within the College through emphasis on personal responsibility for wellness;
  • Offer opportunities for individual as well as group counselling on issues pertinent to life-changes, personal growth and development so that students may successfully navigate college life and complete their programmes;
  • Prepare students to be effective first point-of-contact assistants to other students in difficulty;
  • Increase students' awareness of the Counselling Unit and its services.
